Job Description

I. JOB SUMMARY
The Food Service Supervisor directs the overall food-service operation of the camp including purchasing, preparation, nutrition, service, sanitation, personnel management, customer service, and record keeping. 
II. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily operations of the camp food service
  • Oversee the planning and preparation of nutritionally balanced camp meals, snacks, and pack-out food. 
  • Ensure the service of camp meals through directing the work of other employees.
  • Ensure safe and efficient preparation and serving of camp meals.
  • Coordinate menu planning for camp and user groups as directed.
  • Work with Program Supervisor to deliver themed and creative meals that reflect daily and evening camp programs.
  • Oversee the inventory and ordering of food, equipment, and supplies and arrange for the routine maintenance, sanitation, and upkeep of the camp kitchen, its equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
  • Order food and kitchen supplies consistent with menus and enrollment counts.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
  • Clean and maintain all food-service areas, including kitchen, dining hall, storage, kitchen recycling.
  • Inspect equipment and ensure equipment is repaired as necessary working with maintenance staff.
  • Promote practices that seek to reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as much as possible.
  • Monitor employee performance and training.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and supervise the work of food service staff.
  • Communicates clearly, respectfully and professionally with staff, campers, parents and volunteers.
  • Participate in all training activities that are provided by the Agency for professional growth and skill development, including pre-camp orientation. 
  • Work in collaboration with other staff to make it a rewarding, safe, and positive camp experience for everyone.
  • Creates a nurturing and positive environment that supports the mission and vision of the Agency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Work Schedule & Hours:
  • Seasonal position that occurs April - September
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, which includes nights and weekends. 
III. BASIC COMPETENCIES
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current ServSafe Manager Certification or able to get certification after hiring.
  • 1 year post-secondary education or 2 years supervisory experience
  • 1-3 years of related experience working in food service industry
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable and meets requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Experience in institutional or large food service setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service: ordering, inventory, budgeting, food preparation, family-style serving, buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices is essential.
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Manage time and multiple priorities, meets deadlines.
  • Exercise professional judgement in making decisions.
  • Complete assigned tasks in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Perform physically active work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, shoveling, pulling/pushing (up to 150 lbs.), climbing, and lifting (up to 75 lbs.), in order to perform various tasks.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety and health policies and procedures.
IV. JOB SETTING
The work environment described here is representative of that which an employee will typically encounter during a normal shift.  Work may involve standing or walking for multiple hours during the work shift and may involve exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.This position is responsible for overseeing duties and job functions as listed above for various MCHS locations. Travel between locations will be required by the employee.
