Job Description

About Friends for Humanity

We're a venture-backed consumer company with a simple thesis: the people who understand young people best will win the most important product category of the next decade.

Our product is already in the hands of thousands of users. Retention is best-in-class. Our creator network drives millions of impressions monthly. And we're just getting started.

We're a small, sharp team based in NYC, no middle management, no committees, no waiting for permission. If you're good, you'll have an impact in your first week.

The Role

You'd be one of the earliest engineering hires. That means you're not joining a team, you're building it. You'll work directly with the CEO across the entire stack: product, infrastructure, AI, and everything in between. Nothing here is someone else's problem.

What you'll own

  • The full product stack, from frontend to backend to deployment
  • AI model layer including multi-model routing, context management, and inference optimization
  • Post-training and fine-tuning pipelines on proprietary conversational data
  • Real-time infrastructure built on Convex or similar

Requirements

What we're looking for

Must haves:

  • Love to build for the love of the game
  • Up to date with current AI trends and models
  • Deep with TypeScript/Node and comfortable across the full stack
  • Experience with multi-model API architectures — routing, fallbacks, cost/quality tradeoffs
  • Exposure to fine-tuning, RLHF, or post-training workflows
  • You default to shipping, not debating. You fix what's broken before anyone asks
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Culturally aware / Doom Scroller

Nice to have:

  • Hungry to learn how a real startup operates
  • Experience building for or alongside creator/influencer networks
  • Comfortable working async across time zones
  • Experience in startups and software engineering
  • Have built in public, contribute to open source, or have side projects people can look at
  • Having efficient agent workflows to do coding tasks
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science

Benefits

Compensation & Logistics

  • Full-time contractor role, working with a strong team of engineers and product people
  • Compensation: ₫13,156,000 – ₫78,936,000/month depending on experience. Equity negotiable.
  • Reporting directly to the CEO/Engineering team
