Job Description

Every year, over 50 million Americans are in need of behavioral health care, only a fraction receive it for high-acuity needs like addiction, autism, eating disorders, and other forms of mental health needs. The bottleneck isn't stigma. It's a systemic crisis created by the burden of proof insurance companies demand. Because high-acuity treatment is costly, facilities are forced to constantly "prove" that their members meet the criteria for treatment and that every clinical chart is "audit-ready" just to secure payment. Clinicians, administrators, and operators end up buried under 15+ hours a week of administrative proof-building. Time that should be spent with clients.

We're growing rapidly, with some of the leading behavioral health organizations across the country using Circle to process their encounters.

Our mission is to ensure life-saving care is never denied or delayed. We’ve built AI-powered digital assistants that act as the administrative partner to prove the necessity of treatment across the entire patient’s treatment cycle.

AI assistants that handle the heavy lifting of cross-referencing medical necessity and compliance standards in real-time, leading to increased treatment authorizations, higher clinical time with patients, and decreased time for the facility to get compensated for their hard work.

🧠 Who You Are

  • You want your code to matter. We work on tough challenges with great people who push each other to do their best work and make the world a better place.

  • You’re energized by ambiguity. When you spot a gap, you jump in. Talking to your team, reaching out to customers, and building solutions with initiative.

  • You act with urgency. Health providers act with urgency to treat their community, and you aim to do the same with code and product.

  • You want to excel in the craft. You take pride in your work, writing elegant, technically sound code that solve complex healthcare problems.

  • You're low-ego and collaborative. You thrive in a team-first environment with camaraderie at its core, finding joy in the hard work of building something that makes a real difference.

Technical Qualifications

You have 2+ years of full-time experience and excel in:

  • TypeScript and React — you’re highly proficient and comfortable working across complex codebases.

  • SQL and relational databases — you write efficient queries, design thoughtful data models, and understand when a relational database is and isn't the right tool.

  • AI-native development — you actively use LLMs in your daily workflow, have shipped production features with them, and understand the nuances of prompt engineering, tool integration, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

  • Systems thinking — you confidently discuss cloud tooling and architecture in a whiteboard conversation, knowing when to deploy each solution for maximum impact.

👨‍💻 The Role

You’re a Product Engineer joining a six-person company that supports hundreds of thousands of clinical encounters with a growing customer base every week. From day one, you’ll own meaningful projects and build end-to-end features used daily by clinicians and operators for the benefit of their patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and ship AI-powered features — We’re building “Cursor for Medical Records.” Recently, we shipped an AI agent that automatically audits medical records and surfaces issues that would prevent someone from being approved for care. And we’re just getting started!

  • Move fast, deliver quality — You’ll own projects end-to-end, from requirements through deployment. You’ll be accountable to the people who use your code. We ship early, and often.

  • Be obsessed with unmet Customer outcomes — Everyone on our team engages with our clinical users. We listen to their healthcare admin challenges, uncover insights, and measure impact by the time we free up for back office staff, the accuracy of case reviews, and the number of people who get the treatment they need.

  • Help shape engineering culture — You’ll influence everything from tooling and architecture to code review practices, directly impacting how this team grows and operates.

📝 Interview Process

Here’s what to expect if you’re selected for an interview.

  1. Online Coding Assessment (No Time Limit)

  2. Introductory chat (30 minutes): A conversation about the company, your background, your ambitions and what excites you.

  3. Technical interview (60 minutes): A focused session on your technical skills and experience

  4. Virtual OnSite: A deeper dive into the team and work, including

    1. Code pairing exercise (1 hour): Collaborate with a team member(s) on a real-world coding problem.

    2. Culture interview (45 minutes): Meet more of the team and discuss values, collaboration, passions and fit.

Note: Technical interviews require a local development environment. We’ll provide clear instructions in advance and are happy to accommodate any constraints to ensure a fair process.

💚 Why Circle?

  • Your work here has a real impact. We're not building a dashboard that collects dust. Our customers are addiction treatment facilities, and when our product succeeds, patients stay in care. You'll get to visit these facilities and see your work in use.

  • You’ll join a team that genuinely cares. We're a tight-knit group of experienced operators who enjoy working and spending time together. We debate architecture, share meals, and bring the same passion and curiosity to life outside of work, too. That camaraderie fuels our best work.

  • This is a career-defining role, not a step. In five years, you could be leading at Circle or launching your very own venture. Equipped with the skills and experience that only early-stage work at this level provides.

  • You’ll help bring AI to a field that needs it most. Healthcare is one of the few industries where AI isn't just a nice-to-have; it's essential to solving what’s broken.

💰 Compensation

$150K–$180K base · generous equity package · Health, dental, vision, 401K and commuter benefits · NYC-based

Every application is thoughtfully reviewed by our team. If you're excited by this challenge, we want to connect with you.
