Job Description
FPGA Design Engineer II
Location: Simsbury, CT
Reports To: Product Design Lead
Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense (EBAD) is seeking a talented FPGA Design Engineer II to join our innovative Product Design team in Simsbury, CT. This role offers the opportunity to design cutting-edge FPGA solutions for mission-critical defense projects, contributing to national security. This role drives the full lifecycle of FPGA development from concept to verification in a collaborative, dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design and Develop FPGA solutions with VHDL or Verilog, including simulation models and documentation.
- Conduct trade studies to optimize FPGA resource utilization, performance, and power efficiency.
- Perform synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis using tools like Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or similar.
- Verifying functional and timing requirements using simulation tools (e.g., ModelSim, QuestaSim).
- Validate hardware implementation using lab equipment (e.g., Logic Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators).
- Collaborate with customers and teams to define requirements, interfaces, and specifications.
- Derive and allocate system requirements to FPGA designs, ensuring technical compliance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in relevant FPGA design and development.
- Proficiency with at least one FPGA design tool (e.g., Vivado, Quartus, Libero, or Diamond).
- Knowledge of FPGA architectures (e.g., Microchip, Xilinx, Altera/Intel, Lattice).
- Experience with synthesis, timing analysis, and design optimization.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools (e.g., logic analyzers, oscilloscopes) for FPGA debugging.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Eligible for DoD Secret clearance.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in Verification and Validating FPGA Requirements.
- Familiarity with risk analysis concepts (e.g., FMECA, fault tree analysis).
- Experience in analog, digital, or mixed signal design.
- Experience with schematic capture/PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer).
- Knowledge of defense or safety standards (e.g., DOD, SAE, IEEE, IPC, RCC-319, JOTP-51).
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, TCL) for automation.
- Experience with MATLAB, LabVIEW, or SPICE (e.g. Multisim, PSpice, LTspice).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
