Job Description
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Academic Success, the Math Tutor is responsible for providing workshops, small group, and individual instruction, assisting with peer tutors, and working closely with the Division of Science and Technology faculty to promote appropriate academic support. The Math Tutor must be able to provide support for students in all math courses.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop and conduct mathematics and other appropriate workshops for students; develop instructional materials in mathematics.
Meets with students on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and improve study skills through one or more of the following techniques:
Facilitation of effective study methods in reviewing class material and predicting test
Discussion of the class
Facilitate tutee's formulation of topics and ideas for their class
Facilitate methods for problem
For each applicable course, utilizes the current course syllabus, textbook and supplemental materials as approved by the applicable Division Head.
Provide instructional assistance to individuals and small groups of students in mathematics courses.
Engage in outreach to students and faculty college-wide about support services in the Student Success Center.
Ascertain that appropriate materials and learning aids, including computer software, are available through the Learning Lab for faculty, tutors, and students.
Utilize computers for instructional purposes.
Attend college-wide and departmental meetings as appropriate.
Work appropriate hours in accordance with existing scheduling procedure, which may include evening, weekend, and possibly off-campus assignments.

Minimum Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's in Mathematics from an accredited institution, with a grade of A or B in the course(s) tutored required; a Master's degree in Mathematics preferred.
- One year experience teaching or tutoring Mathematics, preferably at a college level OR equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide similar knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
- Knowledge of educational technology expected.
- Three years teaching/tutoring experience at the post-secondary or secondary level and experience with adult learners in a college and/or university setting. Evidence of appropriate worked-related experience relevant to the position. Demonstrable interest in student success.
- Demonstrated experience providing exceptional influencing skills with young adults.
- The flexibility, skills, and ability to thrive in an environment with ample workloads, changing priorities and deadline pressure.

Physical Demands
An individual in this position will be exposed to a typical office or small classroom environment on a college campus. Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day and climb stairs as required. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
