Fuel Truck Operator

Location: Martinsburg, WV

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

Turner Staffing Group seeking an experienced Fuel Truck Operator to support our active construction operations. This position is responsible for safely fueling and servicing heavy equipment, maintaining accurate fuel and fluid records, performing routine preventive maintenance, and supporting multiple active job sites.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, comfortable working independently, and experienced with fueling and servicing heavy construction equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and operate daily fueling routes across active job sites to ensure equipment is fueled before or between shifts whenever possible.
  • Safely fuel heavy equipment, support vehicles, and on-site fuel storage while preventing spills.
  • Handle, transport, and dispense diesel fuel, DEF, lubricants, and other fluids in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain spill prevention equipment and spill kits and immediately contain and report any fuel or fluid release.
  • Support site SPCC requirements and environmental compliance.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and field service, including oil, filters, grease, coolant, DEF, and fluid checks.
  • Track fuel and fluid consumption by machine and provide accurate usage reports to the operations team.
  • Identify and report developing equipment issues discovered during fueling or servicing before they lead to breakdowns.
  • Complete and document DOT pre-trip and post-trip inspections and remove unsafe vehicles from service.
  • Monitor fuel inventory and coordinate bulk fuel deliveries with the operations team.
  • Safely operate around active construction sites, including soft ground, open excavations, ground personnel, and moving equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety requirements.
  • Haul materials, parts, and equipment between job sites as needed.
  • Keep vehicles, equipment, and job sites clean, safe, and orderly.
  • Maintain fuel tanks within their rated capacities and immediately report any tank changes, additions, or replacements.
  • Participate in occasional night work as needed.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and meet company motor vehicle requirements.
  • Comply with all required driver reporting obligations regarding license status, traffic violations, and at-fault accidents.
  • Participate in at least one continuing education or safety training course each year.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Insurable motor vehicle record (MVR).
  • 2+ years of experience fueling and servicing heavy equipment or comparable fuel delivery experience.
  • Fuel handling and spill response training, or the ability to complete required training before operating independently.
  • Working knowledge of DOT pre-trip and post-trip inspection requirements and load securement.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification, or the ability to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple job sites with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate fuel, maintenance, and inspection records.
  • Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and active construction operations.

Note: The fuel trucks used for this position are configured with multiple separate tanks, each individually shut off and each below the 119-gallon bulk-packaging threshold. Therefore, HazMat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements are not required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating a construction fuel and lube truck.
  • Preventive maintenance or field mechanic experience.
  • Familiarity with SPCC plans and job-site environmental compliance.
  • Experience fueling and servicing heavy construction equipment.
  • Cross-training or experience operating loaders, skid steers, or other support equipment.
