Position Overview:The Town of Fairfield is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Gardening Camp Instructor to lead a week-long gardening camp for youth ages 12 and older. The instructor will create an engaging, hands-on learning environment where participants explore gardening techniques, plant science, environmental stewardship, and sustainable growing practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead daily gardening activities, lessons, and projects.
- Teach participants about plant life cycles, soil health, composting, and garden maintenance.
- Supervise campers during all activities and ensure a safe, positive learning environment.
- Demonstrate proper use of gardening tools and safety procedures.
- Encourage teamwork, responsibility, and appreciation for nature.
- Prepare materials and maintain gardening spaces throughout the program.
- Adapt activities to accommodate varying skill and experience levels.
- Communicate effectively with program staff and parents/guardians as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching gardening, horticulture, environmental education, agriculture, or related subjects.
- Experience working with youth and leading group activities.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate educational experiences.
- Knowledge of gardening techniques, plant care, and outdoor safety practices.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Passion for gardening and environmental education.
- Ability to inspire curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning.
- Experience managing outdoor educational programs or camps.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift gardening materials, and actively participate in camp activities.
