General Education Faculty/Instructor- Student Retention Specialist- College Management Description

Under the direction of the General Education Department Chair, the ON-GROUND Full-Time Student Retention Specialist & Instructor of College Management will provide on-ground and online instruction for General Education through the Knoxville campus.

This position will sit at the South College-Lonas Drive Campus in Knoxville, TN.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Knoxville General Education Department Chair and other campus leaders on matters related to first and second quarter student retention.
  • Update course syllabi, develop lesson plans and presentation materials, as well as evaluate students' progress.
  • Ensure the safety and security of their classrooms and effectively use class time.

Requirements

Education

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Education (with focal areas such as Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Counseling, Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology) or a related subject.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience supporting first-year students and a strong understanding of a successful first-year experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in academic advising, first-year experience coordination, orientation programming, and/or creating and directing student engagement initiatives.
  • Prior teaching experience in an online and face-to-face environment.
  • Proactive, energetic approach to student engagement.
  • Proficient in the written and oral communication of the English language.
