Job Title: General Service Technician

Pay Range: $23.36-28.56 per hour, and variable compensation plan
The General Service Technician (GST) is an entry-level role crucial to the daily operations of an automotive dealership, particularly those specializing in mobility solutions. Individuals in this position contribute to the smooth flow of dealership activities by executing foundational automotive maintenance, managing lot vehicles, and supporting both customers and the dealership team. This role is especially suited for those embarking on a career within the automotive and mobility services industry, providing an excellent platform for professional development and skill building.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Check-In: GSTs are responsible for thoroughly checking in vehicles upon their delivery to the dealership. This process ensures accurate inventory records and early identification of any transport-related issues.
Vehicle Reconditioning: GSTs meticulously recondition trade in vehicles stationed on the lot as well as those prepared for customer delivery, enhancing their appearance and readiness for sale or return.
General Automotive Maintenance -- The GST performs a variety of fundamental maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
Tire rotations and replacements, ensuring safety and even tire wear.
Fluid checks and changes (oil, coolant, brake, and transmission fluids), which are essential for optimal vehicle operation.
Brake inspections and servicing, addressing wear and performing repairs to uphold safety standards.
Suspension component service.
General Automotive maintenance including, diagnosis and replacement of common parts such as, alternators, belts, hoses, wipers, batteries and filters.
Ability to perform and document vehicle inspections following stated company procedure.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) and Lift Support: The GST assists with basic repairs and installation tasks on WAVs and mobility lifts, contributing to the accessibility mission of the dealership.
Rental Vehicle Management: Responsibilities include checking in rental vehicles upon return, and occasionally delivering rentals, to accommodate customer needs.
Customer Pickup Assistance: The GST may be tasked with picking up customers or their mobility equipment (such as wheelchairs), offering vital support and enhancing customer experience.
Trade-In Vehicle Reconditioning: The technician helps recondition vehicles traded in by customers, preparing them for resale or further evaluation.
Work Area Cleanliness: In shop workspace.
Safety and Compliance: It is essential to follow established safety protocols and comply with all company policies at all times to protect oneself, colleagues, and customers.
Additional Duties: GSTs must be flexible, taking on other responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager or Service Manager, demonstrating adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
Qualifications
One to Two years of general automotive repair / maintenance experience.
Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record to operate dealership and customer vehicles safely.
Mechanical Aptitude: Basic mechanical skills and a genuine eagerness to learn are essential for ongoing growth and effective performance in the role.
Customer Service Skills: Excellent customer service and communication abilities are vital, as GSTs frequently interact with customers, representing the dealership’s values and commitment.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and regularly bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods, reflecting the physical nature of automotive service work.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and a positive, flexible attitude are crucial for ensuring quality work and a positive dealership atmosphere.
Professional Development: Candidates must show a willingness to pursue formal automotive and manufacturer-specific training, supporting ongoing advancement within the industry.
Productivity: The ability to maintain a minimum average of 6 billed hours per day is required, balancing efficiency with high standards of workmanship.
