Job Description

About the Role

Carson's General Services Technicians keep our facilities and equipment running across the state. Working out of an assigned branch, a General Services Technician maintains Carson's buildings and the fuel-systems and related equipment at company sites and customer locations: fuel dispensers and cardlocks, storage tanks (tank farm), pumps, tank-monitoring systems, lube, oil, and DEF systems, along with general facility, grounds, and cleanup work.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing field role. The qualifications below are preferred, but we provide the training needed to be successful, so mechanically inclined people who want to learn are encouraged to apply. It is a great opportunity to join a team of highly qualified technicians delivering outstanding service.

Levels: Tier I, II, and III

This is one role with three levels. Every technician does the same kinds of work; the level reflects the breadth and complexity of work handled, how independently the technician works, and how much they develop others. A technician's tier is assigned based on experience and demonstrated capability, not time served, and can grow over time.

  • Tier I (entry / developing): performs routine work under close guidance while building skills. We train.
  • Tier II (skilled / independent): works independently across most standard and moderately complex work, diagnosing common failures.
  • Tier III (senior / lead-capable): handles the most complex work, runs larger jobs, and helps train and check other technicians.

For the full picture: level-by-level expectations and what it takes to advance are defined in the Field Technician Career Framework, and the complete, tiered task list lives in the GS Technician Task List. Pay follows the assigned tier and the branch's cost-of-living zone.

Job Duties

Representative work across the role:

  • Building and facility maintenance, including general repair, plumbing, light electrical, and basic construction support.
  • Fuel dispensing and cardlock maintenance: fuel pump repairs, filter changes, hanging hardware, card reader installation and troubleshooting.
  • Storage tank (tank farm) and aboveground tank maintenance and inspection.
  • Submersible and suction pump service, and support of tank-monitoring and leak-detection systems.
  • Lube, oil, and DEF dispensing equipment maintenance.
  • Landscaping and grounds, plus general cleanup including trash detail and pressure washing.
  • Accurate work-order documentation, parts tracking, and vehicle and tool readiness.
  • Working safely and in compliance with OSHA and UST, EPA, DEQ, and fire-marshal requirements.
  • Professional, reliable customer service at every site, including after-hours and emergency response as needed.
  • Other general tasks and duties as needed to support the branch and the division.

Qualifications

  • Mechanically inclined, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Able to learn all aspects of building maintenance, including construction and plumbing.
  • Strong attention to detail; able to work effectively both alone and on a team.
  • Comfortable with basic computer work (email, work-order entry, and similar).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; Class A or B CDL is a plus but not required.
  • Able to be on call. Travel is sparse and mostly regional within the assigned area, with occasional across-state travel and overnight stays as work requires.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver a job site.
  • Physical demands include twisting, pulling, kneeling, bending, and climbing.
  • Work is performed outdoors and in fluctuating temperatures.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in facilities, petroleum-equipment service, or a mechanical trade is preferred; we provide the training to be successful.
  • Required certifications (for example, UST Operator or EPA / manufacturer certifications) are supported and obtained on the job as appropriate to the tier and the work performed.

Pre-Employment & Employer Notes

  • Driving record and insurability status will be checked.
  • A background check and drug screen will be conducted.

Benefits

Carson offers Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, 401(k), Aflac, pre-paid legal, Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, and PTO.
