Job Description:
The Geotechnical Design Engineer is responsible for technical work pertaining to solving geotechnical design problems and review of design calculations performed by others, as well as the preparation of routine geotechnical study proposals, technical notes, reports, bill of quantities of geotechnical items, etc. The Geotechnical Design Engineer reports directly to the Geotechnical Design Manager.
Specific Duties:
- Provide skill level technical direction to the geotechnical design group; from concept through design basis and detailed design.
- Ensure all geotechnical designs for roadway embankments and subgrade, earth slopes, bridge foundations, and earth retaining structures and foundations for minor structures are in accordance with the Ferrovial Group’s standards and other applicable industry ones.
- Ensure geotechnical principles and analyses are appropriately understood and applied in design by junior staff.
- Review the work of all geotechnical engineers and outside consultants engaged in the project development, engineering and design.
- Create analytical two and three-dimensional models under direction from the Geotechnical Design Manager.
- Oversee performance of assignments that include geotechnical evaluation of subsurface soil/rock strata using applicable ASTM and/or local industry standards for field and laboratory testing
- Coordinate geotechnical projects, including preparing boring location plans, logging during drilling operations and performing soil classification and strength determination tests on soil samples.
- Supervision of geotechnical drilling works, field investigations and laboratory tests
- Interpret the test data and perform engineering classification of the subsurface soil/rock conditions.
- Assist the Project Manager and Senior/Regional Engineer in preparing geotechnical engineering reports and proposals and coordinate with field and laboratory technical support personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, , Geological Engineering or a related field, plus at least five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate employment experience in large-scale highway construction engineering and/or design.
- This position also requires Education or Experience in:
- Experience in CAD
