Job Description
Reports To: Head Golf Professional Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Status: Part-Time | Seasonal (April 15 - November 30) Schedule: 16-24 hours per week (we are open every day except Tuesdays, schedule will include weekend day(s) and possible holidays)
Position Overview
We are seeking a polished, energetic, and service-oriented Golf Shop Assistant to join our team for the golf season. This individual plays a key role in creating an exceptional member and guest experience - from the first phone call to the final purchase.
The ideal candidate is personable, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced retail and hospitality environment. This position combines retail merchandising, front-desk operations, and member service in a dynamic golf setting.
Key Responsibilities
Member & Guest Experience
- Greet members and guests warmly and professionally upon arrival.
- Check in golfers accurately and efficiently prior to play.
- Answer phones and schedule tee times in a friendly and knowledgeable manner.
- Communicate club rules, policies, and course information clearly and confidently.
- Provide exceptional customer service and anticipate member needs.
Retail & Merchandising
- Assist with merchandising displays to maximize product visibility and sales.
- Maintain attractive and organized sales floors, fixtures, and showcases.
- Assist with receiving, tagging, pricing, and displaying new merchandise.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with weekly counts to maintain proper stock levels.
- Develop product knowledge and confidently recommend merchandise to members and guests.
Point of Sale & Financial Accuracy
- Accurately operate the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Process member charges and credit card transactions according to club procedures.
- Collect green fees, cart fees, and other applicable charges.
- Assist with daily opening and closing procedures of the golf shop.
Shop Presentation & Organization
- Maintain a clean, polished, and welcoming shop environment.
- Assist with light cleaning and organization of retail and storage areas.
- Ensure displays are refreshed and rotated throughout the season.
Qualifications
- Previous retail, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge of golf (rules, terminology, pace of play, basic etiquette) strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Comfortable handling financial transactions accurately.
- Ability to multitask and remain composed during busy periods.
- Reliable, punctual, and team oriented.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise (up to 30 lbs).
- Ability to work in a seasonal golf environment with varying activity levels.
