Job Description:

Summary:

The American University Washington College of Law Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) is seeking a Administrative Assistant for the Fall 2026 semester. Applicants should be graduate students at American University (not WCL students.)

OAE empowers law students to make informed decisions that impact their academic goals and bar exam preparedness. Through workshops, programming, and individual counseling, OAE offers resources and guidance in building academic and time management skills, course planning, and navigating the pathway to bar exam licensure for those students seeking a license to practice law.

The Staff Assistant will be the first point of contact for students who visit the OAE office for an appointment or drop-in question.

Essential Functions:

  • Answering basic email inquiries and directing more in-depth questions to the appropriate advisor or other WCL office.

  • Assisting with logistics and promotion of office events.

  • Organizing and maintaining student appointment data.

  • Updating information on websites and WCL platforms (Canvas, LibGuides).

  • Creating and updating office handouts and flyers.

  • Keeping the OAE office organized.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 20 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 per hour.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • OAE uses various software platforms including Canva, Canvas, Microsoft Bookings, Office 365/OneDrive, EMS, LibGuides, and Qualtrics.

  • The Staff Assistant will work for 20 hours per week during the fall 2026 semester in the OAE office at AUWCL (Tenley Campus). The Staff Assistant will work in-person on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
