Groundskeeper

Summary of Duties:

Under the direct supervision of a Groundskeeper Supervisor or Foreman, the Groundskeeper performs skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain and enhance the beauty, safety, and functionality of Walden on Lake Conroe’s community grounds. This includes streetscapes, parks and recreation areas, landscaped pathways, open space reserves, cul-de-sacs, lakes, and other assigned areas. Specific responsibilities for groundskeeper positions include trash and litter collection along roadways.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain and enhance streetscapes, landscaped areas, parks, pathways, and community grounds through mowing, edging, seeding, pruning, weeding, and planting.

• Perform minor repairs, painting, and refurbishment of fixtures, signage, and equipment.

• Collect and dispose of trash, debris, dead vegetation, and wildlife from community areas.

• Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, trimmers, sod cutters, chainsaws, tractors, chippers, and related hand and power tools.

• Assist with the upkeep of lake areas and drainage systems as needed.

• Participate in emergency response duties when activated.

• Support events or community functions, including occasional nights, weekends, or holidays.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Groundskeeper Specific Duties:

• Operate equipment and tools to remove litter and debris along street right-of-ways.

• Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating or monitoring right-of-way zones.

Physical Demands:

• Regularly required to stand, walk, lift/move up to 50 lbs (and occasionally up to 100 lbs).

• Frequent use of hands, arms, hearing, and vision (close, distance, peripheral, depth).

• Occasional climbing, kneeling, or balancing may be required.

• Groundskeeping positions involve extended seated periods with minimal crawling or crouching.

Work Conditions:

• Frequent exposure to outdoor weather, heat, humidity, fumes, noise, vibration, and mechanical equipment.

• Occasional exposure to chemicals, risk of shock, or other hazards.

• The work is physically demanding and often performed in disagreeable environmental conditions.

• Noise Level: Loud

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience & Skills:

• Familiarity with smart technology and GPS/geographical routing systems.

• Ability to read and understand maps and work orders.

• Experience operating and maintaining landscaping and power equipment.

• Basic understanding of concrete work, carpentry, and landscaping is a plus.

Technical Skills:

• Working knowledge of tools, machines, and materials used in outdoor maintenance.

• Ability to perform tasks efficiently and safely, both independently and as part of a team.
