Job Summary:
The Head Electrician / Lighting Lead / Spotlight Head serves as the primary authority for the lighting department, acting as the bridge between artistic vision and technical execution. You are responsible for the physical realization of lighting designs, the supervision of the electrical crew, and the long-term integrity of Mystic Lake Amphitheatre's power distribution and lighting systems.
This role requires a high degree of technical expertise in power logic, data protocols, and rigging, combined with the leadership skills necessary to manage a union crew under tight production schedules. You will collaborate closely with Lighting Designers and Production Management to execute each visual “look” safely, precisely, and on schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall production vision.
This is a union stage crew role. Any successful candidate will be required to join IATSE Local #13 and fulfill membership requirements.
In-person interviews will be held the week of May 18-22, 2026. If selected for an interview, the recruitment team will coordinate a time and date with you that week.
General Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise union lighting personnel including house electricians and oversee crews through load-ins, hangs, focus calls, rehearsals, performances, and strikes
- Manage the Spotlight Head duties, including the assignment of operators, reviewing cue sheets, and ensuring all followspots are maintained and calibrated for the performance.
- Ensure all department operations adhere to the IATSE collective bargaining agreement, including meal breaks, turnaround times, and safety regulations
- Lead the installation of the lighting plot, ensuring all fixtures are hung, patched, and focused precisely to the Designer's specifications
- Rapidly diagnose and repair issues with fixtures, dimmers, or data distribution during rehearsals and live performances
- Calculate electrical loads and manage the safe distribution of power for lighting, motor control, and atmospheric effects
- Supervise the safe hanging of lighting pipes, trusses, and heavy equipment, ensuring all hardware meets industry safety factors
- Manage the operation and maintenance of fog, haze, and pyrotechnic systems where applicable
- Execute a preventative maintenance program for house inventory, including moving lights, conventional fixtures, followspots, and dimming racks
- Maintain accurate circuit plots, patch sheets, and rack elevations
- Manage the department budget for consumables (gel, lamps, tape) and recommend capital equipment upgrades
- Familiarity with the programming of lighting consoles (e.g., ETC Eos Family, GrandMA3) and the configuration of networked data (sACN, Art-Net) (bonus)
Qualifications/Skill Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in theatrical electrics
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and supervise a crew
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong practical knowledge of basic and advanced stagecraft
- Introductory programming Skills on ETC light board range
- Advanced skills in lighting setup, methodologies, and practices
- Advanced knowledge in working with Electricity, both alternating and direct current in a variety of voltages
- Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure in live performance and broadcast environments
- Strong ability to make well-informed decisions in the moment
- Interdisciplinary knowledge of other departments is a plus
- A background check will be initiated in accordance with state and federal law after a contingent offer of employment.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holiday
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time
- Ability to work at heights on ladders, personnel lifts, or high-tension wire grids
- Ability to lift and carry heavy lighting fixtures and cable bundles (up to 50 lbs)

The US base salary for this part-time position is $38/hour plus benefits as applicable.
