About the Position:

The Head of Ethics and Compliance, North America is responsible for leading the implementation, management and continuous improvement of ALS' ethics and compliance framework in the United States, with broader North America and regional engagement as required. The role provides practical compliance support to US General Managers and operational leaders, helps identify and manage compliance, privacy and regulatory risks, and supports consistent governance across ALS globally.

Position Duties & Scope:

  • Lead the development, implementation and review of compliance policies, procedures, standards and controls for US operations, aligned with ALS requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Act as a key compliance partner for US General Managers, providing clear, practical advice on compliance obligations, risk mitigation, controls, incidents and reporting expectations.
  • Monitor, interpret and communicate relevant US regulatory and legislative developments including Federal Acquisition Regulations, advising management on business impacts, control requirements and implementation priorities.
  • Conduct and coordinate compliance and privacy risk assessments for new or changed products, services, processes, projects and systems, including privacy impact assessments where personal information is involved.
  • Support the design, implementation and testing of compliance controls, including monitoring and assurance activities to assess control effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Plan and support compliance monitoring programs, reviews and audits, including coordination of responses and tracking of agreed corrective actions.
  • Manage and coordinate compliance incidents, potential breaches and privacy matters, including triage, investigation support, root cause analysis, documentation, escalation, notification support and corrective actions.
  • Partner with relevant business, functional and regional stakeholders to embed compliance requirements into operations and technology solutions.
  • Develop and deliver compliance and privacy training and awareness programs tailored to US business needs.
  • Maintain compliance registers and evidence repositories relevant to the role, including obligations, incidents, monitoring, training, attestations and remediation records.
  • Prepare periodic compliance reports and presentations on key risks, incidents, monitoring outcomes and remediation status for management, executive and Board-level audiences as required.
  • Engage with broader North America, regional and territory stakeholders as required to share insights, support alignment and promote consistent compliance practices across ALS.

Quality Responsibilities:

  • Always apply sound corporate governance and social responsibility.
  • Perform duties in accordance with ALS standards, quality procedures and internal governance requirements.
  • Promote consistent documentation and recordkeeping to support effective assurance and auditability.

Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:

  • Understand ALS' major HSE policies and the safety and environmental requirements set out in ALS standards and procedures.
  • Support business units and subject matter experts with programs intended to ensure the business is compliant with ALS requirements for Health, Safety and the Environment.
  • Report and support rectification of identified compliance concerns, unsafe practices or environmental harm as appropriate.
  • Develop and further improve safety and sustainability culture through strong leadership and practical support to the business.
  • Comply with relevant worker-related obligations under applicable state and local OHS legislation.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in law, business, finance, accounting, risk, compliance, audit or a related field. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in compliance, risk, internal audit, legal, governance, privacy or regulatory roles, ideally in a multi-regional publicly listed organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting compliance programs, including policy implementation, control design, monitoring, assurance, reporting and remediation.
  • Strong experience working with government regulators and supporting regulatory response activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of US compliance and regulatory expectations, with the ability to interpret obligations and translate them into practical business requirements.
  • Experience conducting compliance risk assessments, privacy impact assessments, monitoring activities, audit support and issue remediation.
  • Proven ability to manage or coordinate compliance incidents, investigations and privacy matters, including root cause analysis, escalation and corrective actions.
  • Professional compliance or risk certification, or relevant professional membership, preferred. Examples include Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional - International (CCEP-I), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), International Compliance Association qualification, or membership of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to influence, educate and drive outcomes with stakeholders at all organisational levels.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to partner effectively with General Managers and relevant business, functional and regional stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement, and commitment to confidentiality, integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Highly organised, with strong project management capability and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 and comfort working with compliance registers, evidence repositories and reporting dashboards.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work reasonable flexible hours to align business meetings across North America and global time zones.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support US operations, regional engagement and broader territory needs.
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing professional development in compliance, privacy, risk and regulatory matters.
