Your Recipe for Impact — What You’ll Do

As Head of Infrastructure & Information Security, you’ll lead the strategy, design, and performance of secure, scalable technology platforms that power Whataburger’s growth. In this role, you’ll Make a Difference by ensuring the reliability and protection of critical systems that support our restaurants, team members, and customers every day.

Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities

As Head of Infrastructure & Information Security, you will:

• Lead enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, and security operations
• Translate technology and security strategy into actionable roadmaps
• Ensure system uptime, performance, and resilience through monitoring and incident response
• Direct cybersecurity programs including threat detection and vulnerability management
• Oversee data protection, privacy, and regulatory compliance (e.g., SOC 2, ISO, SOX)
• Embed security controls across cloud-native, API, and platform environments
• Drive cyber resilience, incident response, and business continuity planning
• Govern third-party and vendor risk, including AI and SaaS solutions
• Partner across teams to support audits, risk assessments, and control testing
• Provide risk-based insights and recommendations to senior leadership
• Lead, develop, and mentor high-performing infrastructure and security teams
• Communicate technology and security posture to executives and stakeholders
• Continuously improve scalability, efficiency, and security maturity

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience

As Head of Infrastructure & Information Security, you must have: 

• 6+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, and information security leadership
• Proven success operating large-scale, high-availability cloud environments (24/7, multi-region)
• Deep expertise in cybersecurity, risk management, and regulatory compliance
• Experience building and executing enterprise technology and security strategies
• Strong knowledge of identity security, incident response, and threat management
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop senior technical teams
• Executive-level communication and stakeholder influence skills
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field

Extra Toppings — Desired Experience

As Head of Infrastructure & Information Security, we prefer you to have: 

• Advanced degree (MBA or related master’s)
• Industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCSP)
• Experience leading AI governance and secure adoption frameworks
• Background in restaurant, retail, or multi-site operations environments
• Familiarity with modern architectures (microservices, APIs, cloud-native platforms)
• Experience presenting to executive leadership, board members, or external stakeholders
• Track record of driving transformation in security posture and infrastructure modernization

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
