Job Description:
The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center seeks a Head of Resource Management. The Head of Resource Management is responsible for ensuring that all physical and digital resources are accessible to patrons from acquisition through discoverability. Key duties include cataloging materials, overseeing the integrated library system (ILS), and managing electronic resources.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform original and copy cataloging for materials in all formats, following MARC metadata standards, RDA, LC Subject Headings, and LC Classification; familiarity with OCLC Connexion; Coordinate and perform database maintenance, including automated and batch processing across library and information management systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and discoverability. (20%)
Manage the Integrated Library System (ILS) and serve as the primary point of contact for system-related issues; familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony and Alma; periodically generate statistical reports on cataloging, acquisitions, collections, etc. (20%)
Evaluate, recommend, and support library technologies, in conjunction with IT Services, including software, information systems, and equipment to meet resource needs; familiarity with using Digital Commons repository platform is desired. (20%)
Collaborate with colleagues to develop goals, priorities, policies, and procedures that enhance access to physical and digital collections. Provide mentorship, training, and supervision to staff and student workers to support effective resource management and access. Lead and participate in projects related to electronic resources, metadata, and digital collections. Serve as liaison to local consortia and ILS-related vendors, representing the law library's interests. (20%)
Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with emerging standards and best practices in metadata, cataloging, and systems management. Actively participates in local, state, and national law library, library and legal organizations and associations. (10%)
In conjunction with the Collection Development Committee, selects and recommends new and retrospective materials in appropriate formats for purchase; and recommends deselection of resources form the collection as appropriate. (5%)
Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the library's mission and evolving needs. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent
3 years of experience in an academic library
Relevant cataloging experience; knowledge of cataloging practices and standards, including MARC 21, RDA, LCSH, and LC Classification; expertise with SirsiDynix Symphony or Alma and OCLC Connexion; expertise with Digital Commons repository platform. Demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing special projects and metadata for digital objects.
Preferred Qualifications:
M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent
5 years of experience in a law library
Prior experience with cataloging, electronic resources, database maintenance and ILS management in academic library environment. Ability to function in a collegial, teamwork-oriented environment with a strong service orientation; self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and superior organizational and analytical skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally, and in a timely manner; ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
