Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for the U.S. Defined Contribution business, identifying opportunities created by evolving client needs, regulatory developments, competitive dynamics, and industry trends.
  • Drive commercial outcomes by partnering closely with distribution, product, and investment teams to grow assets, revenue, market share, and strategic client relationships.
  • Lead the development, commercialization, and positioning of innovative retirement solutions, including target date strategies, retirement income, indexing, active investments, and solutions addressing emerging participant and plan sponsor needs.
  • Serve as the senior external representative for the U.S. Defined Contribution business with plan sponsors, consultants, advisors, recordkeepers, industry organizations, and other key market participants.
  • Use data, market intelligence, and business analytics to assess opportunities, prioritize investments, allocate resources, and evaluate the effectiveness of strategic initiatives.
  • Build strong partnerships across investment management, product, distribution, marketing, operations, legal, risk, and other corporate functions to drive disciplined execution and deliver an exceptional client experience.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing Defined Contribution team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Partner with clients and industry stakeholders to advance retirement outcomes and strengthen State Street’s position as a thought leader in the evolving U.S. retirement marketplace.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the regulatory and fiduciary environment affecting defined contribution plans and incorporate relevant developments into business, product, and client strategy.

Education and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional designation preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in the U.S. Defined Contribution and retirement industry, including significant leadership responsibility and commercial accountability.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. retirement ecosystem, including plan sponsors, consultants, advisors, recordkeepers, regulatory considerations, investment solutions, and participant needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute business strategies that drive asset growth, client retention, revenue expansion, and market differentiation.
  • Strong strategic mindset, with the ability to translate a long-term vision into clear priorities, actionable initiatives, and measurable outcomes.
  • Proven record of leading high-performing teams, developing talent, and creating a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence, with the ability to engage and influence senior clients, boards, consultants, industry groups, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience working effectively across investment, product, distribution, and operating functions within a complex global organization.
  • Sound commercial judgment and a demonstrated ability to make decisions using market insights, business analytics, and disciplined financial assessment.

Leadership Attributes

  • Client-focused and commercially oriented, with a strong commitment to delivering sustainable value for clients and the business.
  • Collaborative and influential, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders around a shared strategy.
  • Innovative and forward-looking, while maintaining disciplined execution and appropriate risk awareness.
