Job Description

PURPOSE:

The Strength and Conditioning Coach primary purpose is to design, implement, and direct sport performance-based curriculum for university intercollegiate sports. The Strength and Conditioning coach will also perform professional and administrative services essential to the successful implementation and development of the program. The coach is also responsible for providing strength and conditioning services for the University's athletic department. The coach is required to evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that could enhance the benefit of the strength and conditioning program. The coach will also work in conjunction with the sports medicine staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student athlete needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform components of the strength and conditioning programs to include teaching a performance-based curriculum.
  • Instruct student-athletes about physical preparation, health and nutrition, safety and recovery responsibilities.
  • Teach exercise techniques to reduce potential injuries.
  • Manages the athletic weight room facility.
  • Schedule team and individual training and development sessions.
  • Operates within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC, and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Maintain facility equipment.
  • Compile and interpret summary data relative to individual team development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or NCAA/GLVC regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from student-athletes, coaches, and administration.
  • Proficient in use of a computer for data entry and word processing.
  • B.S. degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Education or related field from accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Certification in Strength and Conditioning Required (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association or National Strength and Conditioning Association).
  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage people.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of strength and conditioning curriculum.
  • Ability to motivate and organize the student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in working with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, GLVC, and Division II athletics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to assist with or transfer athletes of various weight/heights.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
  • Ability to communicate to give adequate directions and instructions to subordinates.
  • Ability to frequently life and or move up to 100lbs.
