About the job

As a Header Welder, you will perform a variety of work activities including grinding, chipping and electric resistance, flux sifting using oxyacetylene, carbon-arc and sub arc torches. Select welding wire for specific welds to ensure fusion of base and filler metals. Weld metals and alloys of various shapes, sizes and thicknesses. Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products according to blueprints, layouts or work orders.

This position is in Tulsa, Oklahoma and/or Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Reads blueprints and instructions to understand weld procedures, header layout, and thickness of plates.

  • Operates a mig welding machine to weld headers.

  • Operates oxyacetylene torches to preheat the heads and cut attachment openings.

  • Performs layout & fit-up of non ASME code water jacket headers.

  • Complete Preventive Maintenance Checklist and performs routine machine maintenance as required.

  • Provides needed material(s) to various workstations and/or locations.

  • Operates crane and hoist to load and unload heads off of and onto the workstation.

  • Assists Team Lead or Team Manager with various tasks and training others as needed.

  • Crosstrain in other areas/departments as needed to include acquiring new skills.

  • Responsible for maintaining a clean work area both during and at the end of each work shift.

  • All employees are expected to prioritize safety, regardless of role. This includes strict adherence to company-wide safety policies and procedures, proactive promotion of safe practices, and addressing unsafe behaviors or conditions in a constructive and positive manner.

  • Employees expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, courtesy, and cooperation toward colleagues, customers, vendors, and visitors.

  • Full compliance with all Alfa Laval policies and procedures is required to maintain a respectful, safe, and productive work environment.

What you know:

You have High School diploma or GED, required with relevant experience, and:

  • Must pass Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) if working on stainless steel.

  • Minimum 1 years of professional experience related to manufacturing; industry experience preferred.

  • Basic math skills required and the ability to read a tape measure.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints.

  • 1 year experience using mig and flux core welding and oxyacetylene/sub arc torches preferred.

  • Successful completion of the G Welder test.

  • Overhead crane and hoist experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in English-both spoken and written-is required to ensure safe and effective performance of job duties. This includes the ability to understand and follow blueprints, safety instructions, hazard communications, and emergency procedures with clarity and confidence.

Physical and Environmental Factors:

Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, equipment use):

  • Regularly exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally; 30 lbs of force frequently

  • Stand or walk for 80% of the workday

  • Maintain visual acuity for operating vehicles and heavy equipment

  • Mobility & Posture: Standing, walking, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and balancing on varied surfaces

  • Manual Dexterity: Reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects using upper body strength

  • Fine Motor Skills: Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers for precision tasks

  • Communication: Clear verbal expressions and active listening to convey and receive detailed instructions

  • Sensory Abilities: Adequate hearing to distinguish sounds and spoken communication in a work environment

Environmental Factors (hazardous materials, work location, work surfaces, exposure):

  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment: steel toe boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs

  • Exposure to outdoor weather, extreme heat or cold, loud noise, and vibration

  • Work near hazards: moving machinery, vehicles, electrical currents, and chemicals

  • Encounter atmospheric conditions: fumes, dust, gases, odors, and poor ventilation

  • Operate in confined spaces such as narrow aisles or passageway

  • Communicate effectively through speech and hearing
