Roskam has a full-time Summer 2026 People Safety internship opportunity for individuals currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related field; recent graduates may apply with a related concentration and interest in a career in Safety.  The summer internships will be on-site at our facilities in Grand Rapids. 

This Safety Internship will support the People Safety team in ensuring a safe work environment by assisting with safety programs, compliance initiatives, training, and audits. This hands-on role provides valuable experience in workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation within a fast-paced food manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze current Lock Out Tag Out processes making recommendations for alternatives.
  • Assist in updating LOTO training materials
  • Design and implement ergonomic safety team including structure, communication, and meeting cadence.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety regulations and standards, particularly those relevant to the food manufacturing industry, such as OSHA, FDA, and USDA.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with employees at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in food manufacturing
  • Previous experience with safety management software
