Job Description

Position Overview

CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to maintain medical records and health information systems at a federal correctional institution in Cumberland, Maryland. You will manage inmate health records, process ROI requests, and support clinical coding and compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and secure inmate health records per BOP policies
  • Process release of information requests per HIPAA and BOP regulations
  • Audit medical records for completeness and compliance
  • Assign ICD-10 and CPT codes
  • Compile healthcare utilization and quality metric reports
  • Coordinate medical record transfers between facilities
  • Support ACA/NCCHC accreditation documentation
  • Train staff on documentation requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in HIM or related field
  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
  • EHR proficiency
  • HIPAA knowledge
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to pass federal background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Federal or correctional HIM experience
  • CCS or CPC coding certification

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $50,000 - $65,000 annually
