Health Information System (HIS) Specialist ILocation: Lafayette, LAEmployment Type: Contract | 12 WeeksWork Arrangement: 100% OnsiteSchedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PMPay Rate: $19.00–$20.00/hourPosition OverviewWheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Health Information System (HIS) Specialist I for a 12-week contract opportunity in Lafayette, LA. This position provides Level 1 application support and training assistance for the organization’s WellSky Health Information System, helping ensure users receive timely technical support and maintain effective access to critical healthcare applications.The HIS Specialist I will respond to help desk tickets, perform basic troubleshooting, assist with new-user setup and reporting, support system training, and help coordinate application upgrades. The ideal candidate has experience supporting Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or healthcare information systems, strong customer service skills, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as Level 1 support for WellSky, responding to help desk tickets and performing basic application troubleshooting.
  • Identify, research, and resolve system issues, escalating unresolved problems to the HIS Administrator or application vendor as appropriate.
  • Assist the WellSky System Administrator with new-user setup, system access, quality assessments, report generation, and other application-related tasks.
  • Identify user knowledge gaps and provide or coordinate system training when appropriate.
  • Assist with scheduling virtual training sessions and coordinating training activities.
  • Verify completion of required training before granting system access.
  • Prepare training guides, materials, and resources for onsite and virtual training sessions.
  • Support monthly WellSky application upgrades, testing, and related activities.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to help maintain system accessibility and availability for users.
  • Provide professional and responsive internal and external customer service.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, clinical staff, IT teams, and other departments.
  • Participate in a rotating after-hours support schedule.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to system support, training, and user access.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in EMR application support and customer service preferred.
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Electronic Health Record (EHR), or healthcare information systems.
  • WellSky experience is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of basic application support, troubleshooting, help desk, and ticket resolution processes.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications and healthcare technology systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic compliance or healthcare software.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively support physicians, clinical staff, and other system users.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Information Technology, clinical, administrative, and operational teams.
  • Must be able to work 100% onsite in Lafayette, LA, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Ability to participate in a rotating after-hours support schedule.
