Health Information Tech (HIT) – Contract to Hire
• Columbus, OH • Pay Rate: $17.15/hour • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM • Employment Type: Contract to Hire
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Health Information & Inventory Coordinator (HIT) to support daily operations within a healthcare facility located inside an adult correctional institution. This role blends medical records support, administrative duties, and inventory/storeroom management .
Candidates must be comfortable working in a secure environment and interacting directly with incarcerated individuals while maintaining professionalism and adherence to all facility policies.
Important Work Environment Details
- This position is based within an adult prison healthcare system
- Candidates will be working around and interacting with inmates
- Scrubs are required attire at all times
- Role may vary between administrative support and storeroom/inventory responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Perform administrative support for healthcare staff and nursing units
- Answer phones and take/verbalize orders accurately
- Manage medical supply inventory and storeroom operations
- Order, receive, unpack, and verify incoming supplies
- Maintain accurate inventory records using Excel and internal systems
- Perform cycle counts and monitor stock levels
- Ensure availability of patient care equipment (wheelchairs, crutches, etc.)
- Track and resolve inventory discrepancies and equipment issues
- Fulfill and deliver supply requests from departments
- Package and process returns; ensure proper labeling
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method
- Remove and document expired inventory
- Monitor supply usage and forecast inventory needs
- Generate reports related to inventory and supply chain activity
- Communicate with vendors and internal teams regarding orders and supply levels
Required Qualifications
- Active CPR Certification (required)
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel (required)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working in a correctional healthcare setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in healthcare administration, medical records, or inventory management
- Experience in a storeroom, supply chain, or materials management role
- Familiarity with inventory systems or healthcare environments
