This unique opportunity is designed for high school students interested in exploring a future in healthcare while gaining hands-on experience, building professional skills, and working alongside healthcare teams at Deaconess Health System.

Job Overview:

As a paid Healthcare Assistant Apprentice, sophomores will gain a blend of classroom learning and real-world healthcare experience. This program is designed to introduce students to healthcare early while building foundational knowledge and hands-on exposure.

Students will:

Attend on-site coursework and training in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College
Participate in job shadowing and clinical experiences across multiple healthcare settings
Support care teams while exploring a variety of career paths
Build confidence in a professional healthcare environment
Begin preparing for industry-recognized certifications while still in high school

This opportunity is exclusively for current high school sophomores or juniors who are interested in pursuing a future in healthcare and want to get an early start.

What You Will Need:

Must be a current high school sophomore interested in pursuing a future in healthcare
No prior healthcare experience required - this is a learning-based apprenticeship opportunity
Interest in exploring healthcare careers
Willingness to learn in both classroom and clinical environments
Reliable transportation to assigned sites
Ability to meet onboarding requirements (background check, immunizations, etc.)

What You will Earn:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Dual-credit courses through Ivy Tech, including:
Medical Terminology
Anatomy & Physiology
Introduction to Psychology
Indiana Diploma: Employment Honors Plus Seal
Industry-recognized Healthcare Assistant Certificate upon completion
