Job Description

The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining data governance standards across the organization. This role ensures organizational data is accurate, secure, compliant, and aligned with operational workflows.

The Specialist serves as a cross-functional liaison between clinical, operational, compliance, BI, and IT teams to promote data quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance across enterprise systems.*This is an on-site role located in Maitland, Florida. Candidates must currently reside locally or be able to relocate within 30 days of accepting an offer.

Key Responsibilities

Data Governance & Compliance

  • Maintain data governance policies aligned with HIPAA and healthcare regulations.
  • Establish data standards and quality monitoring processes.
  • Define data ownership and stewardship practices.
  • Maintain data dictionaries and system documentation.
  • Support compliance audits related to PHI and data integrity.
  • Monitor and report on data quality metrics.
  • Identify and mitigate data risks across departments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with clinical, revenue cycle, BI, IT, HR, and operations teams to support data integrity.
  • Align governance practices with organizational strategy.
  • Identify risks related to data duplication or manual processes.
  • Promote consistent data standards across departments.
  • Provide guidance and training on data governance best practices.

Decision-Making Authority

  • Recommends governance standards and integration priorities.
  • Advises leadership on data risks and interoperability gaps.
  • Escalates compliance or data integrity concerns as needed.
  • Influences data-related system and process decisions (no direct budget authority).

Qualifications

Required

  • To be considered candidates MUST HAVE 3–5+ years of experience in healthcare systems data governance.
  • Experience working with EHR/EMR or healthcare operational systems.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy requirements.
  • Strong requirements gathering and documentation skills.
  • Ability to translate operational needs into structured data standards and documentation.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, APIs, or healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Experience supporting multi-site healthcare operations.
  • Experience working with vendors on system implementations (from a governance or compliance perspective).
  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle data flows.
  • Background in data analytics or reporting environments.
