Job Description:

Healthcare Pathway Peer Tutor, Internship tutor and mentor students in their various programs

POSITION TITLE: Healthcare Pathway Peer Tutor, Internship

STATUS: Part time

DEPARTMENT: Center for Academic Success in Healthcare

DIVISION: Nursing, Health and Public Services

REPORTS TO: Manager, Center for Academic Success in Healthcare

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

HIRING RANGE: $15.50 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Professionally represent Joliet Junior College and uphold the College's core

values.

  1. Tutor students using both individual and small group sessions in the

following subject areas: Nursing, Pharmacology

  1. Maintain accurate and timely records of tutoring activities.

  2. Visit instructors, departments, and classrooms to distribute flyers to help

create awareness of tutorial services as well as other services offered

through the CASH Center.

  1. With assistance from the coordinators, select appropriate instructional

support materials recognizing and addressing individual student needs.

  1. Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and training as may be required.

  2. Assist with receptionist duties as necessary.

  3. Assist with light office work including but not limited to the following:

keeping the CASH Center appearance neat at all times, running errands

within the campus, preparing materials, filing, photocopying, etc.

  1. Assist with promotion and coordination of programs and events.

  2. Assist with note-taking duties as necessary.

  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Must have completed one semester of college-level courses while

maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  1. Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours.

  2. Must be a current student in one of our healthcare programs.

  3. Must have received an A or B in the subject area to be tutored - preference

given to students who have completed three or more courses in the subject

area

  1. Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

  2. CASH Manager approval.

  3. One faculty reference.

  4. Excellent customer service skills.

  5. Ability to communicate effectively with students/faculty.

  6. Ability to work with minimum supervision and maintain confidentiality in

accordance with FERPA guidelines.

  1. Patience, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to accept

responsibility.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Two or more faculty references.

  2. Previous work experience.

  3. Ability to work in the CASH Center for at least one full academic year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Normal office physical demands.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is an internship position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
