Overview
Job Description
- Perform preventive maintenance on work and dump trucks (oil changes, filters, fluids, tires)
- Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, drivetrain, brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Inspect and maintain dump truck hydraulic lift systems (pumps, cylinders, hoses)
- Complete DOT inspections and keep fleet vehicles in compliance with safety regulations
- Document all maintenance and repairs via work orders or fleet management software
- Source parts through vendors and suppliers; proactively communicate maintenance needs to reduce downtime
- Service and repair mowers (walk-behind and zero-turn), trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, edgers, and sprayers
- Diagnose and repair carburetor, ignition, fuel, and air filtration systems on two- and four-cycle engines
- Perform seasonal startups, winterization, blade sharpening, belt replacements, and deck adjustments
- Maintain accurate parts and supply inventory; advise on repair vs. replacement decisions
- Keep a clean, organized shop in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Properly dispose of hazardous materials (used oil, coolant, batteries)
- Assist with trailer maintenance and collaborate with field crews to prioritize urgent repairs during peak season
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 3+ years of hands-on diesel and/or gas truck mechanics or fleet maintenance experience
- Demonstrated small engine experience; commercial landscaping equipment a plus
- Valid driver's license with clean record; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain
- Proficient with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and hand tools; able to read repair manuals and wiring diagrams
- Strong troubleshooting skills; able to work efficiently under time pressure
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs., work outdoors, and operate in confined spaces
- ASE certification(s) in Medium/Heavy Truck or related areas
- Background in landscaping, agriculture, or construction equipment
- Experience with fleet management or maintenance tracking software
- Welding/fabrication skills and trailer repair experience a plus
- Working knowledge of dump truck hydraulic systems
