Summary/Objective
The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and rebuilding a wide range of heavy construction and industrial equipment. This role ensures equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently to support operational and project requirements.
Essential Functions

Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain issues on heavy equipment
Perform preventive maintenance and inspections per manufacturer and company standards
Read and interpret service manuals, diagnostic software and schematics, diagnostic software, and schematics
Utilize electronic diagnostic tools and computer-based systems
Perform welding, fabrication, and machining as required
Conduct field service repairs at job sites
Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation and safety compliance
Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair portable and small equipment (e.g., small tools, generators, pumps, light towers, compressors, and related jobsite support equipment)
Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage documentation
Communicate repair needs, timelines, and recommendations with supervisors and operations teams

Supervisory Requirements
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.May require overtime, nights, weekends, or emergency callouts
Physical Demands
The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs physical labor under adverse field conditions. You can occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Work performed in shop and field environments, including outdoor conditions.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. May require overtime, nights, weekends, or emergency callouts
Travel
This position may require travel.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues independently
Preferred Education and Experience
Welding or fabrication experience
Experience with fleet maintenance software
Field service or construction environment experience
Valid CDL driver's license
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver's license prior to employment.
