Heavy Equipment Operator

Position Summary
Tribal One Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our construction team in Rapid City, South Dakota. This role is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy construction equipment to support civil, commercial, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, follows strong safety practices, and works collaboratively in a fast‑paced construction environment. We are a federal construction company who works on Military Installations that requires a Drug test and Background check.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, graders, and backhoes
- Perform site preparation, grading, excavation, trenching, and material handling
- Read and follow grade stakes, plans, and project specifications
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Maintain a clean and safe job site; follow OSHA and company safety standards
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and spotters
- Assist with general labor duties as needed to support project completion
- Perform work in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience in construction or civil work
- Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of job site safety practices and equipment maintenance basics
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass pre‑employment and random drug and alcohol screenings
- Physical ability to work long hours, lift up to 75 lbs, and work outdoors
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utility, road, or site‑development projects
- GPS machine control experience
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- CDL (Class A or B)
Work Schedule
- Full‑time, year‑round work
- Overtime and occasional weekends as project schedules require
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range:
$22.00 – $32.00 per hour, depending on experience and equipment proficiency
