For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in History, Historic Preservation, Architecture, Park Management or related with minimum additional experience of 20 year(s) in park resource management issues, particularly history, cultural resources, historic preservation, interpretation of historic properties, and/or general park management.

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
Duties:

The historian will support the Intermountain Region?s Historic Preservation Services with expertise in park history and administration. Support the cultural resources team with historical research and report writing. Assist the office in monitoring historic structures and park resources. Aid the park in public programming related to historical topics. Offer services with museum and exhibit projects related to historical topics

  • Enrollee will work with NPS Regional Program Managers, park superintendents, and/or park resource management staff in developing, guiding and assisting with execution of history/historic preservation focused projects.   40%
  • Enrollee will assist in the development of history/historic preservation baseline documents through participation in remote and in-person (as needed) meetings, sharing with project teams relevant materials and information, completion of document reviews, and provision of comments/guidance on improvement of materials.   50%
  • Enrollee will perform other duties as assigned   10%
Other:
  • Overnight travel: Occasional travel may be required, potentially 1-3 nights over the course of the project
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Guidance and training will be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment).
  • Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to conduct occasional fieldwork in easily accessible areas. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
