• Years of Experience:*
• Level I: 1+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred* *
• Level II: 4+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred*

• Education:
• Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution- OR -* *
• Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution- OR -* *
• Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses.*

• Certification:
• Nationally:  HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)* *
• FL:  current state technician or technologist license* * * * * * *
• Basic understanding of laboratory techniques*
• Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks*
• Ability to communicate effectively*
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail*
• Ability to work independently*
• Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards*
• Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company’s Safety Data Sheet Database*
• Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments*
• Must be able to lift up to 50 poundsJob Responsibilities: 
  • Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples*
  • Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting*
  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures*
  • Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures*
  • Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax*
  • Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated*
  • Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures*
  • Performs filing of blocks and slides*
  • Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests
