Job Description

Title: House Manager & Family Assistant (with Meal Prep and Pet Care Support)

Location: Bethesda, MD 20816

Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week; W-2 Employee

Target Start Date: August 17, 2026

Compensation: $35–$40 per hour, based on experience

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–9:00 PM; flexibility for 1-2 nights 3:00-11:00 with advanced notice. 

Requirements

  • Can maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Has reliable transportation (family car available for use on occasion)
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • Up-to-date on vaccinations (COVID & Flu)
  • Experience with household management, meal prep, and childcare
  • Comfortable around small dogs

About the Family

We are seeking a highly reliable, proactive, and organized House Manager & Family Assistant to become an integral part of our family's day-to-day life, helping to ensure our household runs smoothly and bringing structure, consistency, and ease to our busy family life.

This position is approximately a 50/50 mix of household management and childcare. During the day, you'll help keep the home running smoothly by managing household tasks, coordinating vendors and appointments, assisting with meal preparation, running errands, and ensuring the family's routines stay organized and on track. In the afternoons, you'll transition into a more child-focused role, handling school pick-ups, transporting children to activities, and providing an extra set of caring, capable hands during the family's busiest hours.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support & Child Assistance:

  • Be present at the family home each weekday to pick-up the children after school and provide consistent after-school support beginning at 5:00 PM.
  • Manage the afternoon and evening routine, including coordinating activities, preparing snacks and meals, and ensuring a smooth transition through the evening.
  • Provide transportation to and from school, extracurricular activities, and appointments as needed.
  • Offer occasional backup childcare coverage during mornings if the child(ren) are home from school. 
  • Supervise children during pool activities (current CPR certification required - summertime).
  • Daily assistance with evening routines and bedtime support.

Household Management & Organization

  • Develop and maintain household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, toys)
  • Reset and tidy rooms daily to prepare for weekly cleaning services
  • Oversee household schedules and calendars
  • Support seasonal clothing swaps, guest prep, and donation coordination
  • Supervise and coordinate with service providers/vendors (cleaners, landscapers, pool maintenance)
  • Ensure pool area is maintained (covering cushions, leaf blowing)

Inventory Management

  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping
  • Handle package deliveries / pickup, mail sorting, and returns

Meal Planning & Preparation

  • Plan and prepare meals for the family (including kids' meals 5 days/week, personal meals for the client 2x/week)
  • Batch-cook meals for the week, focusing on protein-forward options
  • Shop for groceries and maintain pantry inventory
  • Clean kitchen after meal prep and maintain kitchen organization

Laundry & Linen Care:

  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (e.g., clothing, bedding, towels)
  • Manage linens: rotate bedding, refresh towels, restock essentials
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies
  • Handle special care for delicates

Errands & Administrative Tasks

  • Handle errands (grocery shopping, dry cleaning, returns, gift shopping)
  • Manage dry cleaning, vehicle maintenance, and scheduling
  • Help with administrative support, including managing family calendars and appointments

Special Projects & Vendor Oversight

  • Assist with home projects and deep cleaning (e.g., fridge, oven, baseboards)
  • Oversee home property upkeep, including scheduling maintenance providers
  • Handle guest preparations and holiday/event coordination

Pet Care

  • Feed and walk dog- daily walk 20-30 min
  • Schedule and coordinate vet, grooming appointments
  • Keep pet supplies stocked and organized
