Job Description:

As part of the Housekeeping department within the Office of Facilities Management and Capital Planning, the Housekeeping Supervisor II provides outstanding service to the University of Baltimore by maintaining a clean and orderly environment in our buildings. The role supervises a large group of housekeepers and coordinates cleaning activities in order to maintain quality standards. A majority of time is spent on directing daily activities, inspecting work, carrying out special instructions, or resolving housekeeping issues. The size of the physical area and number of employees assigned varies according to use and purpose of facility, volume of pedestrian traffic, and intensity and frequency of cleaning process. The schedule for this position is 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM.

If a conditional offer is accepted, applicants must pass a fingerprinting background check. Candidates selected for employment may also be subject to medical inquires and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.

Responsibilities:

Team Assignments & Supervision

Regularly determines, plans, and schedules work priorities according to university and shift needs. This includes monitoring and approving subordinates' leave requests, attendance, and timesheets.

Facilities Inspections

Routinely inspects the quality and quantity of work to ensure that it meets established standards and shares this information with Supervisors, Leads, and Housekeepers. Periodically inspects assigned areas and reports physical condition to appropriate personnel regarding repairs, replacements, furnishings, and relocation of equipment.

Equipment/Skills Subject Matter Expert

Frequently operates cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops and performs or assists with other cleaning duties as necessary. Occasionally assists and demonstrates housekeeping procedures and appropriate use of equipment to staff.

Supplies Inventory Distribution

Loads and transports service cart with required materials and supplies to designated areas and back to campus storage areas, and requests cleaning materials and supplies as needed

Customer Service

Frequently receives and responds to inquiries regarding the cleanliness and upkeep of a room or general area on campus

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: Four years of progressively responsible experience in housekeeping work serving in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Additional related formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including assessing customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating customer satisfaction. Knowledge of established cleaning procedures and techniques. Knowledge of the purpose and application of products and equipment used in cleaning operations. Knowledge and use of personal protective equipment. Skilled in motivating, developing and directing people as they work. Skilled in monitoring and assessing the performance of others and the ability to make improvements or take corrective action. Skilled in time management. The ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations. The ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, information and ideas so others will understand. The ability to recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. The ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others. The ability to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment, and work with chemicals and cleaning solutions. The ability to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. The ability to reach overhead and below the knees. The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, twisting in order to move furniture and equipment or to handle materials. The ability to lift, transport, or carry supplies and refuse up to 20 pounds unassisted. The ability to push, pull or operate equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted. The ability to provide guidance and training to others.
