About the OpportunityStep into a key support role at the heart of a well-established and respected industry leader. Subterranean Boring Inc. is seeking an organized, detail-oriented HR & Payroll Coordinator to join our team and help keep our people operations running smoothly.
In this role, you will be responsible for executing all payroll functions, supporting core HR processes, and assisting with light accounting activities. You will ensure accurate and timely payroll across multiple states, maintain employee records and compliance, and support onboarding, benefits administration, and financial tracking.

Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Processing: Process biweekly payroll for all hourly and salaried employees across multiple states, including managing tax withholdings, validating timesheets, coordinating payroll changes, ensuring accurate deductions, and reconciling payroll reports.
Onboarding & Offboarding: Coordinate new hire documentation, manage I-9 verification and compliance, maintain employment records, and handle offboarding, including final payroll and benefits termination.
Benefits Administration: Administer employee benefits programs, manage enrollments and changes, act as liaison with benefit providers, and support open enrollment and employee inquiries.
HR Compliance & Administration: Ensure compliance with applicable labor laws, assist with HR policy and employee handbook updates, and support audits and reporting as needed.
Light Accounting Support: Assist with accounts payable, invoice processing, expense tracking, payroll-to-accounting coordination for job costing, and month-end credit card statement auditing.
Employee Support: Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable point of contact for payroll and benefits questions across the organization.
3–5 years of payroll, HR, or related experience
Experience with multi-state payroll preferred
Familiarity with QuickBooks Payroll
Basic HR compliance knowledge
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and business systems
Strong attention to detail with a high level of confidentiality
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Discreet and trustworthy when handling sensitive employee and financial information
Strong communicator who can support employees at all levels with professionalism and care
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in every task
Self-motivated and dependable with a team-first mindset
Adaptable and comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-moving environment
Competitive hourly rate of $28–$32, depending on experience
Part-time (approximately 30 hours per week)
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (flexible hours available)
