Director of Human Resources

Sage Solutions Group | Metro Detroit | On-Site 

Sage Solutions Group is growing, and we are looking for an experienced HR Director to lead our HR consulting team and partner directly with clients and executive leadership.

This role is for a seasoned HR professional who understands both the strategy and the hands-on realities of human resources. You’ve led people. You’ve navigated complex employee relations issues. You know compliance inside and out. And you believe strong HR practices should make organizations healthier, stronger, and more effective.

As our HR Director, you will guide our internal HR team while serving as a senior advisor to clients across a variety of industries. You will report directly to the CEO and play a key role in shaping the direction of our firm.

Position Overview

The HR Director provides leadership, direction, and oversight to Sage’s HR Generalists, Managers, and Assistant Directors, while ensuring exceptional service delivery to assigned clients.

This position requires strong judgment, discretion, and the ability to confidently navigate sensitive matters. You will balance strategic leadership with operational oversight, ensuring our clients receive practical, compliant, and high-quality HR support.

Key Responsibilities

Client Oversight

  • Serve as a high-level HR partner to assigned client organizations
  • Lead and support workplace investigations, corrective actions, and terminations
  • Ensure client policies and procedures align with current employment laws and best practices
  • Oversee HRIS implementation and system optimization
  • Identify areas of HR opportunity and recommend expanded or enhanced services
  • Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled with accuracy and professionalism

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor HR Generalists, Managers, and Assistant Directors
  • Conduct regular check-ins and provide coaching and development
  • Act as a resource and escalation point for complex employee relations matters
  • Support professional growth and competency development across the HR team

Organizational Development

  • Allocate team resources to ensure client work is completed efficiently and effectively
  • Develop and refine internal SOPs and workflows
  • Partner with executive leadership on company initiatives and strategic planning
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen service delivery

Firm Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly HR team meetings and internal training
  • Maintain daily billing oversight and communication with leadership
  • Travel to Metro Detroit client sites as needed
  • Maintain on-call availability for client and team support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience
  • At least 5+ years of experience as an HR Manager
  • Minimum 2 years leading and developing HR professionals
  • Strong background in client service or customer-facing environments
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Working knowledge of ADA, FMLA, FLSA, COBRA, HIPAA, Title VII, EEO, Workers’ Compensation, ERISA, FCRA, Elliott-Larsen, and related employment laws
  • Experience managing HRIS and payroll systems
  • Strong understanding of recruitment, compensation, investigations, and employee development
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with professionalism
