Job Summary:

US Coatings is currently seeking an HSE Manager. This position oversees all health, safety, and environmental programs for a ship‑repair operation specializing in confined‑space marine sandblasting and coatings. This role not only drives compliance and culture but also manages and develops the HSE team, ensuring consistent execution across all projects.

  • Direct all health, safety, and environmental programs for ship repair, blasting, and coatings operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate HSE Administrators; set priorities, assign tasks, and ensure consistent performance across shifts and projects.
  • Develop and enforce confined‑space entry procedures, atmospheric testing protocols, and rescue readiness.
  • Implement controls for abrasive blasting, coating application, ventilation, PPE, and exposure monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, USCG, NFPA, and state environmental regulations.
  • Lead root‑cause investigations and corrective action planning.
  • Develop and deliver training for confined space, respiratory protection, hazardous materials, and environmental controls.
  • Oversee waste management, spill prevention, stormwater compliance, and air‑quality controls.
  • Evaluate contractor safety programs and enforce site‑specific requirements.
  • Conduct JHAs, hazard analyses, and exposure assessments for high‑risk tasks.
  • Champion proactive safety engagement, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7–10+ years in ship repair, shipbuilding, industrial coatings, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Proven experience managing HSE staff, including coaching, performance management, and workload coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience managing confined‑space operations and atmospheric hazards.
  • Familiarity with SSPC/NACE standards, abrasive blasting hazards, and coating application controls.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1915 (shipyard), 1910, EPA environmental rules, and USCG requirements.
  • Proficiency with air monitoring, ventilation calculations, respiratory protection programs, and exposure assessments.
  • Ability to train, coach, and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Preferred Requirements and Education:

  • CSP, CIH, CHST, or equivalent strongly preferred.
