HVAC Technician
The HVAC Technician performs skilled installation, replacement, maintenance and repairs on all types of heating, ventilation and air conditioning throughout the facility and performs other maintenance duties as assigned.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30pm
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- HVAC Certified
- Formal education in HVAC repair and knowledge of standard practices of HVAC
- 2 years' experience in installation and/or maintenance of electrical and/or electronic control systems for heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems preferred
- Skilled in the use of tools such as pressure and temperature gauges, volt-OHM meters, manometers, and other basic test equipment.
HVAC Functions
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs on motor starters.
- Performs repairs to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls such as control valves, deck control thermostats, and pressure differential switches and sensors.
- Uses basic level schematics and vendor manuals to asset in troubleshooting instrument and control problems.
- Troubleshoots and makes modifications to all types of HVAC.
- Performs major replacements, new installations, and modifications of HVAC equipment.
- Assists in the training of HVAC mechanics and apprentices.
- Estimates time and materials for HVAC.
- Notifies the PS Manager or Director of Building, Grounds, and Supportive Services when a repair will require an outside service vendor.
Safety Functions
- Correctly utilizes eye, ear, and respiratory protection as needed.
- Maintains a high level of safety during all repair and maintenance operations.
- Uses and maintains materials and equipment in such a manner as to prevent damage to building, equipment and self.
- Properly stores equipment and materials.
- Ensures access to assignment area is sufficiently restricted to prevent injury to others.
Work Hours
- May require working long hours or hours outside of the normal work week.
- Available for 24 hour on-call work and required response time when assigned.
- MAY BE DESIGNATED ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, INCLUDING HURRICANES, EVACUATION, FIRE, FLOOD, ETC., AND BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN ON CAMPUS FOR THE DURATION OF THE EMERGENCY.
Physical Requirement: Ability to stand for extended amount of time, lift more than 50lbs utilizing proper body mechanics, frequent bending and stooping, and work in both inside and outside environments.
