Job Description
Freese and Nichols is seeking a Hydraulic Modeling and Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Planning Lead to join our team in Houston or Pearland, Texas. As W/WW Modeling and Planning Lead, you will serve as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor, guiding complex planning and modeling efforts while helping shape the long-term technical direction of the team. You will play a critical role in delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions while building a lasting technical legacy within a stable, growth-oriented environment.
What You'll Do
Lead technical delivery for water and wastewater master planning and hydraulic modeling projects, serving as a senior advisor to project teams
Provide hydraulic modeling expertise, technical judgment, and QA/QC to ensure high-quality, defensible deliverables
Partner with project managers to align technical execution with scope, schedule, client expectations, and overall project strategy
Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, helping identify practical solutions and communicate complex analyses, assumptions, and recommendations
Mentor EITs and junior engineers, elevating technical capabilities and supporting professional development across the team
Review and guide planning level analyses, models, and reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, and quality; lead modeling support for design projects
Perform in a Senior Project Manager role on select planning efforts, providing overall technical and project leadership.
Contribute to proposals, pursuits, technical scopes, and interviews.
Support internal R&D, innovation, and best‑practice efforts related to planning, modeling tools, and methodologies.
Collaborate with internal national technical professionals to implement and outline best practices, advance modeling and planning methodologies, and drive consistency across projects
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering field
Professional Engineer (PE) license
6+ years of engineering experience in water, wastewater, or related infrastructure projects
Strong experience with water and/or wastewater hydraulic modeling and planning
Demonstrated experience in QA/QC and technical review of engineering work
Preferred
Experience leading technical components of water and wastewater master planning projects, sanitary sewer evaluation studies, asset management projects, and impact fee studies
Experience mentoring or developing junior engineering staff
Experience supporting multiple projects or serving as a technical advisor across teams
Familiarity with modeling tools and planning methodologies for municipal infrastructure
Interest in serving as a long-term technical leader within the Houston-area team
Participation in professional and technical organizations
