Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Compliance & Waste Management Engineer to oversee the full lifecycle of environmental stewardship for a premier high-tech manufacturing facility. This role is the primary architect for our waste management strategies, ensuring that all hazardous and non-hazardous streams are handled with absolute precision and in total alignment with federal, state, and local mandates.

Initially supporting our operations in Tempe and Peoria, AZ during the infrastructure phase, you will transition to a permanent leadership role as our flagship Peoria facility moves into full-scale production.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Oversight & Permitting

  • Statutory Compliance: Ensure the site maintains 100% adherence to RCRA, EPA, TSCA, EPCRA, and CERCLA regulations, as well as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.

  • Permit Management: Maintain and renew all environmental permits related to the storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and submit critical regulatory filings (TRI, Tier II) and maintain meticulous records of waste manifests and shipments.

Hazardous Materials & Waste Stream Management

  • Operational Oversight: Manage the segregation, collection, and recycling of all waste streams, ensuring proper waste characterization and chemical inventory tracking.

  • Vendor & Agency Liaison: Act as the primary interface with regulatory bodies and external waste disposal partners.

  • Logistics Compliance: Enforce DOT standards (49 CFR) for the safe transportation of hazardous materials.

Sustainability & Risk Mitigation

  • Environmental Auditing: Conduct regular site inspections and audits of waste management practices to ensure ISO 14001 compliance.

  • Incident Response: Lead spill response protocols and corrective action plans for any environmental incidents.

  • Waste Minimization: Develop and implement innovative strategies for recycling and waste reduction to meet corporate sustainability and ESG goals.

  • Field Sampling: Collect water and waste samples using EPA-approved methodologies to support ongoing permitting requirements.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science (Master’s preferred).

  • Proven Experience: 3+ years in industrial environmental compliance, ideally within a high-tech manufacturing or chemical-intensive sector.

  • Legal Mastery: Robust knowledge of RCRA, TSCA, EPCRA, CERCLA, and DOT hazardous materials regulations.

  • System Proficiency: Experience with environmental management systems and digital reporting tools.

Physical & Operational Readiness:

  • Technical Fitness: Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator and capable of working in confined spaces, at elevations, and in varying weather conditions.

  • Physical Capability: Regularly able to lift up to 50 lbs and navigate an active industrial site.

Preferred Certifications & Knowledge:

  • Professional Credentials: PE (Environmental/Chemical), CHMM, or REM certifications are highly desirable.

  • Safety Training: HAZWOPER (40-hour) and OSHA Safety certifications.

  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with ISO 14001, SEMI S2/S8 standards, and Cleanroom (ISO 14644) protocols.

  • Certification Requirement: Ability to obtain DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification within 12 months of hire.
