Motor Technology, Inc., a national leader in providing superior quality and value in electro-mechanical repairs and services to our customers, is seeking an Industrial Electromechanical Service Technician Apprentice. Since 1981, we have been an integral part of keeping national industries up and running smoothly and efficiently. We are a family-owned company that builds, services, and sells industrial motors, controls, gearboxes, and related driven equipment for advanced electric motor systems. Our Service Techs are responsible for performing repairs on various kinds of electromechanical equipment at our customers' facilities. Motor Technology has developed a two year program for our less experienced Technicians to gain valuable hands on experience that will take them to the next level of their career.

The hours for this position are 7:00AM-3:30PM with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

Technicians report to MTI to clock in before going to customer site.

In addition to the annual reviews listed above, this position includes reviews at six months and eighteen months employment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of industrial related electromechanical experience
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to understand, perform, and retain skill-related training, and operational and safety procedures
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to provide and purchase necessary tools and toolbox
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Willing to be on call one weekend every four weeks
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Able to pass a DOT physical
  • Able to work over-time
  • Completion of a trade or technical program preferred, but not required

Responsibilities to be learned: (Some basic knowledge of the following is expected, whether through schooling or previous on the job training)

  • Read job cards to determine job status, work authorizations/limitations, estimate, description of problems, and/or expected serviceability.
  • Test electromechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods (AC or DC).
  • Disassemble electromechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration, and condition.
  • Clean electromechanical equipment assemblies as needed using various methods and steps, including, but not limited to: parts washers, steamers, caustic tank, glass beaders, etc.
  • Measure for or note proper placement of parts. Correctly requisition needed parts.
  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electromechanical assemblies, including, but not limited to: bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, impellers, mechanical switches, brakes, clutches, clutch rotors, tachs, fans, end shields, etc.
  • Retest reassembled electromechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
  • Complete required forms on computer system for each job accurately.
  • Operate specialized repair and testing equipment, and other equipment as needed.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear.
  • Lift (using forklift or overhead crane), tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work duties.
  • Assemble, move, set up, and dismantle tools and machinery.
  • Read plans.
  • Operate cranes, gantries, and trucks.
  • Use tools properly.
  • Travel daily to various customer sites within a 2-hour radius.
  • Perform other duties as required.
