Job Description

Reports To: Molding Supervisor / Production Manager Position Summary The Injection Molding Process Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting injection molding machines to ensure optimal production quality, efficiency, and safety. This role requires hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving to support continuous production and meet customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Setup & Operation Prepare and install molds, tooling, and auxiliary equipment according to production schedules. Set and adjust machine parameters to achieve consistent part quality and cycle times. Perform start-ups, changeovers, and shutdowns following standard operating procedures. Process Control & Optimization Monitor production runs and adjust processes to maintain product quality and minimize scrap. Identify and troubleshoot molding defects such as short shots, flash, burns, or dimensional issues. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement process improvements and corrective actions. Maintenance & Safety Perform routine machine and mold maintenance to ensure operational readiness. Ensure all equipment is operating within manufacturer and safety guidelines. Follow all workplace safety procedures, including PPE use and lockout/tagout requirements. Documentation & Communication Maintain accurate production and process records, including setup sheets, changeover logs, and downtime reports. Communicate process changes and issues to supervisors, engineers, and incoming shifts. Assist in training operators and junior technicians on proper molding techniques. Qualifications Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certification preferred. 2–5 years of injection molding experience, including machine setup and troubleshooting. Knowledge of various thermoplastic materials and their processing requirements. Skills & Abilities: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and process documentation. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery.
