Hearth & Home Technologies is looking for an Innovation Design Engineer to join our Stoves Business Unit in Halifax, PA. We are the nation’s leading manufacturer and supplier of hearth products, including a wide variety of gas, electric, wood and pellet burning fireplaces, inserts, stoves, and accessories. Headquartered in Lakeville, Minnesota, with distribution around the world, our innovative approach is supported by a business unit structure that allows us to develop and market products with a strong focus on customers’ needs.  Since 1996, we’ve been dedicated to connecting people through the warmth and comfort of our hearth products.  

As one of our four core business units, the Stoves Business Unit brings together top brands such as Harman, Vermont Castings, and Quadra-Fire, now united under one as Forge & Flame, alongside other stove brands. This unit focuses on delivering high-quality, reliable stove solutions, including wood, pellet, and gas models.
Key Responsibilities
  • Solid modeling in CAD software to produce accurate, detailed designs.
  • Application of mechanical engineering principles to stove design (thermal, structural, materials).
  • Understanding of stove functionality, safety standards, and performance requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and iterate efficiently.
  • Work hands-on in the lab experimenting, performing tests, creating functional prototypes, etc.
  • Participate in intellectual property strategy and landscape assessment for the electric laboratory.
  • Generate intellectual property in the form of invention submissions, patents and/or trade secrets.
  • Identify key technology trends and capabilities in the solid fuel heating space and other relevant industries.
  • Active participation in understanding regulatory trends impacting the future of the hearth industry.
  • Active participation in the creation of product strategy development and product roadmap development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science or combination of education and relevant experience
  • 8 or more years of professional experience in R&D and/or new product development or equivalent with advanced degree plus professional experience
  • Strong CAD and design skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and take ownership of projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Technical: Prior experience in a research environment. Experience in a lab setting performing experiments, testing, concept development, prototyping, etc.
  • Communication: excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, at all levels of the organization
  • Consumer focused: help teams to listen to and uncover unmet consumer needs
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently.
