Job Description
SUMMARY This position evaluates and implements physical therapy to patients with neurological, burn/wound, or musculoskeletal injuries, or to patients with other acute or chronic physical disabilities through the use of physical therapy techniques to relieve pain, restore function, and facilitate independence. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to be successful. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following) Evaluate and assesses the patient s abilities and limitations. Establish plan of treatment and goals bases on the referral an evaluation of functional skills; joint mobility; gait; developmental reflexes; muscle strength, tone, and coordination; sensation tests; and other measures to ensure rapid patient recovery. Implement therapy according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of physical therapy. Educate the patient and/or the caregiver about the findings of the evaluation, established goals of the physical therapy program, plan of treatment, home programs, injury prevention and other related information. Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of physical therapy modalities. Recommend adaptive equipment, complete the equipment justification forms and arrange for the delivery of equipment. Re-evaluate patients, assesse their progress and makes recommendations regarding discharge. Consult and co-treats with other patient care team members to discuss patient progress, set objectives for patient treatment and integrate physical therapy treatment with other activities. Evaluate home or work environments and make physical barrier modification or ergonomic recommendations. May assist with departmental program development and training physical therapy students. May provide inservices for PT staff, other WCHC employees, and community. Provide documentation of patient care according to established criteria. Supervises the patient care activities of aides, assistants, attendants, students, and volunteers. Participate in hospital and departmental inservices, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, team meetings, and other related activities. Assist with departmental operation and ordering supplies. Ability to work with all age groups of patients, with appropriate knowledge to adjust the evaluation and treatment to these groups. Communicate with physician. Safely and operate equipment used in the course of physical therapy job duties. Treat patients with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses the psychosocial need of patients and families. Ensure that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participate in and demonstrate good infection control, safety, and ergonomics. Recommend process improvements for increased efficiencies Display and promote company values Regular attendance Other duties as assigned SKILLS AND ABILITIES A basic knowledge of computer skills is required. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with strong written and verbal skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations professionally. Ability to work in a fast paced, rapid changing and regulatory environment. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE The Staff Physical Therapist must be licensed to practice physical therapy in the State ofIowa. Must be a graduate of an APTA accredited college or university with a certificate, master s degree, or doctorate in physical therapy. Must have current BCLS certification.
