Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is seeking Installation Engineers to support the Train Control Upgrade Project (TCUP) in San Francisco, California.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of cable routing and installation solutions along the railway corridor, supporting DCS antennas, radios, wayside equipment, transponders, and associated signaling and communication systems.

This role requires close collaboration with civil engineering partners, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure all installation designs are safe, constructible, compliant, and delivered in accordance with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate cable routing and cableway designs based on system wiring diagrams and installation requirements.
  • Guide and supervise subcontractors and design partners in the preparation of installation and routing designs.
  • Work to reuse existing cable pathways by optimizing the design while ensuring compliance with capacity and filling ratio requirements.
  • Assess constructability and optimize installation solutions for field implementation.
  • Coordinate with civil engineering partners and internal technical teams to resolve design and interface issues.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, project specifications, applicable standards, and local electrical regulations.
  • Apply project quality procedures throughout all design phases and support documentation control processes.
  • Collaborate with civil, signaling, telecommunications, and systems engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions, ready for construction.
  • Identify technical risks, constraints, and critical issues, and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Participate in technical meetings and represent the Installation Engineering discipline with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support during construction and installation activities as required.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in railway infrastructure, installation engineering, or transportation projects in a brownfield environment.
  • Experience designing cable pathways, raceways, ducts, and cable routing solutions for railway systems.
  • Strong understanding of constructability considerations and installation practices.
  • Experience coordinating with civil engineering stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Familiarity with Requirement Traceability Matrices (RTM), Interface Registers, and systems integration processes.
  • Experience managing contractor and subcontractor design activities.
  • Previous construction or field installation experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

The salary range for this position is $126,104 - $189,157.

Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
