Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for an Instructional Designer in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The work schedule is Monday- Friday 8:30am- 5:00pm. This is a bargaining position, exempt, grade 31 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework (1) day a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.
Under supervision and/or direction, administer, advise, design, develop, and provide educational or training services in formal education or training programs. The work typically involves performing duties in one or more of the following functional categories: occupational analysis, instructional design, instructional/training materials development, training aids and devices, instructional services, instructional/training program evaluation, staff and faculty development, tests and measurement, and instructional/training program administration. The work involves extensive planning, organizing and analyzing accumulated data and information; and considerable coordination and integration of the work with other functional activities.
Assignments are depicted by changing or new circumstances that affect specific situations and require adjustments in methods or approaches different from those in existing guidelines. Assignments may be made on a continuing or project basis and the incumbent independently performs work that requires original development and revision of materials or methods. Regular contacts are with administrators, faculty and staff.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conduct analyses of occupational and academic areas to determine the requirements for revision of existing and new instructional systems including training programs.
- Plan, coordinate and develop components of instructional design based on the findings of occupational and academic analysis.
- Develop, review and revise instructional materials for courses or occupations in accordance with specific learning objectives.
- Design or develop criteria for designing training aids and devices based on needs analysis of the instruction/training systems.
- Plan, coordinate, develop, review, or evaluate education and training programs for total support; i.e., personnel, equipment, facilities, budget, and other resource requirements.
- Design, develop, conduct, or evaluate programs of faculty development.
- Develop objective tests and other instruments to measure student achievement and the adequacy of instruction/training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master Degree in curriculum development, instructional design, adult education, human resources development, or a relevant field.
- Five years experience in learning and/or organizational development in higher education, designing and developing learning objectives and e-learning environments and evaluation and assessment techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of instructional design theory, principles and practices.
- Thorough knowledge of adult learning theory and principles and of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs; of curriculum and program development; of project management and research principles; of training standards and techniques; of instructional technologies including online course design and course management systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital accessibility standards and practices (e.g., WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, ADA Title II, Section 508) and experience partnering with faculty to design accessible and inclusive course materials across modalities. Ability to provide professional development and practical support that proactively reduces barriers for diverse learners.
- Skill in oral and written communication including interpersonal relations.
- Skill in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skill in problem-solving, needs assessment, organization and multitasking.
- Skill in facilitating and presenting instructional materials.
- Ability to anticipate needs, manage conflict, work with diverse populations, build coalitions, and secure resources.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Hiring Range: $79,746 - $103,658 midpoint annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $127,571.
