Job Description

Fort Hays State University's Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track Instructor of Clinical Psychology and Practicum and Internship Coordinator. We seek a creative, collaborative, and engaging faculty member who will contribute positively to the department's culture of innovative teaching, student-centered mentoring, and dedicated service to our graduate and undergraduate programs. This position is located on the campus of FHSU in Hays, Kansas.

Faculty Duties

The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach on-campus and online courses, primarily at the graduate level (undergraduate on occasion). Scholarly activities related to the discipline are expected, and the ideal candidate would demonstrate an appreciation of scholarship reflected in their interactions with graduate students. Service to the department, university, local community, and discipline at large is expected. The candidate will serve as an advisor to graduate students in consultation with the program director.

Coordinator Duties

The candidate assists the Clinical Psychology Program in coordinating the placement of students in community partner-based practicum and internship experiences to fulfill the requirements for the MS Clinical Psychology degree. The candidate works closely with community partners to identify placement opportunities that align with FHSU Clinical Psychology Program requirements and to resolve related issues. The candidate also guides students through the matching process to secure assignments that support their learning and professional development.

Coordinator duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Advises students regarding practicum and internship experiences and placements
  • Coordinates graduate student practicum and internship sites
  • Ensures that students are academically cleared and qualified for placement
  • Develops required paperwork for practicum/internship including updating syllabi, course requirements, and program handbook requirements
  • Monitors documentation and ensures that students complete all the required practicum and internship paperwork before placement and graduation
  • May, on occasion, serve as a practicum/internship supervisor
  • Academic advising in collaboration with the Clinical Psychology Program Director

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology with an emphasis in clinical psychology
  • Licensed as a psychologist in KS (at the doctoral or master's level including LP or LCP)
  • Experience supervising clinical psychology graduate students in practicum and internship work
  • This position is located on the campus of FHSU in Hays, Kansas. Successful candidates must relocate to Hays or within a reasonable daily commuting distance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in designing and teaching on-campus and online classes
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in supervising (students, professionals, etc.), with a minimum of five years of relevant supervisory experience
  • Experience working with tracking software for managing student clinical placements (e.g. SONIA; Time2Track)
  • Experience working in diverse clinical environments and with diverse clinical populations

The Department of Psychology has 13 full-time faculty members and approximately 450 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students. The Department offers a BA and BS in Psychology; two M.S. degrees with specialization in clinical and school psychology, and a school psychology Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.). The department has a tradition of involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, and the school psychology program enjoys close working relationships with local school districts.
