Job Title: Instructor- Post-Doctoral Fellow (One Year Pre-Residency)

Job Summary:

This is a one-year postdoctoral position situated in the new Pre-Resident Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program in the Department of Orthopedics. Responsibilities will primarily involve management of projects aimed at understanding the influence of obesity on the molecular and cellular behavior of the synovium in various synovial joints. Work will encompass management of human tissue collection protocols, nucleic acid extraction from this tissue for RNA sequencing and epigenetic study, and contribution, with mentoring, to data analysis. There will also be involvement in other projects in the Foot and Ankle Division and the Orthopedic Research Center, which may include patient-reported outcomes analyses, biomechanical studies and studies of osteoarthritis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with human protocols, including initial submission, presentations to the Scientific Advisory Research Committee, modifications, and regulatory oversight

  • Collecting surgical discarded synovial tissue

  • Performing nucleic acid extraction procedures, integrity testing, and quantification for both RNA and DNA

  • Tissue preparation and processing for paraffin-based histology

  • Molecular analyses of human tissues, including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence

  • Preparation of abstracts and manuscripts

  • Participation in preparation of research grants

  • Participation in research related coursework and resident labs and didactic series

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • An MD or DO degree

  • Experience in research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience in translational or clinical orthopedics

  • Experience collecting and processing human tissue samples

  • Experience performing tissue, protein and nucleic acid isolation and analyses

  • Bioinformatics experience

  • Interest in inclusion of research and discovery as part of career plan

  • Interest in pursuing a Residency in Orthopedic Surgery

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of statistics

  • Understanding of skeletal system biology

  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Basic computer skills in both Mac and PC environments

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary for this position has been established as:

$63,900 (Year 1 Postdoctoral career level stipend)

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
