Instrumentation/Electrical Technician

Location of the job: Hammond IN (Unionized)

Rotating Shift Hours:

(1st week) 7:00 am – 3:15 pm

(2nd week) 3:00 pm – 11:15

(3rd week) 11:00 pm – 7:15 am

Base Pay Rate – $44.75 (with increases after completion of training/probationary periods to $49.64) - Weekly Pay Periods

Background & Purpose of the Job

Our Unilever Hammond, IN facility is the home of the Dove Beauty bar, one of Unilever's biggest brands and the largest soap factory within the US.  Our Hammond facility is where we have been working to make beauty a source of confidence by manufacturing the different variations of the Dove beauty bar.  By joining our Hammond team, you will join a globally recognized site, that is also famous for being able to produce a billion bars in one year

As the Instrumentation/Electrical Technician, under minimal direction of management or other employees, would safely perform and guide the repair, replacement, installation, inspection, enhancement, optimization, testing and troubleshooting of all facilities, processing and/or production equipment.   

Who You Are & What You Will Do

  • All activities must be performed in strict compliance with Unilever standards and safety guidelines.

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance routines including accurate, complete and timely documentation.

  • Perform equipment repairs/replacements and maintain accurate work order and inventory documentation.

  • Effectively use hand/power tools and shop equipment.

  • Work with managers, operators, contractors, vendors and suppliers to ensure timely completion of services.

  • Move and operate equipment including forklifts and high lifts.

  • Define, select, requisition and expedite parts and materials while following approved procedures.

  • Inspect used parts to determine failure modes and recommend countermeasures.

  • Perform all tasks safely and report any non-conformance to safety standards.

  • Effectively communicate with others and seek feedback/input.

  • Work and participate in a team environment.

  • Perform/follow quality related practices (SPC, GMP, etc.).

  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies and techniques relating to areas of expertise.

  • Maintain and clean work areas, job sites, tools and equipment.

  • Share job-related knowledge and information with management and peers.

  • All other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • 5-7+ years of verifiable electrical maintenance experience.

  • Maintenance disciplines working knowledge: instrumentation, electrical power, electrical control, drives, variable frequency drives, PLC, high voltage systems

  • Extensive controls, PLC and automation knowledge and experience.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems is a plus.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Proficiency using multimeters, amp probes, meggers and electrical schematics.

  • Ability to display manual dexterity and perform physical job requirements.

  • Understand and follow GMP/Plant Hygiene and safety guidelines.

  • Knowledge of hand and power tools and shop equipment.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints.

  • Basic personal computer knowledge and aptitude to learn software programs.

  • Complete understanding of safety procedures with strong verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work in a team/group.

  • Ability to work under minimal direction, initiate, resolve and monitor problems, and provide guidance for other crafts in areas of proficiency and maintenance disciplines.

  • Experience in Instrumentation, Electrical Power, Electrical Control, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and PLCs.
